Disney World : Sanitized Reality

Some events and details that lead Salamone and Salamone to describe Disney as a "sanitized reality" is the fact that Disney World is attempting to create an area for millions of people with pure and innocence. Some things within Disney World that create this "sanitized reality" is main street, where there is a City Hall, a Penny Arcade, and an Ice Cream Shoppe.  On Main Street, there is a "jolly mayor who greets everyone in his orbit" (Salamone 169) along with the cinema, playing nothing but G-Rated movies.   Disney World attempts to create this place of what people wishes there was in the world and a "nostalgia for the Age of Innocence" (167).

Another "sanitized reality" here in the U.S. would be grade school, where one sits in class for a set amount of time, then gets 5 minutes to walk to another class, then repeats. It is unrealistic in the real world to only spend 50 minutes a day on english, math, and history.  In addition, at school, there are certain rules that everyone must follow that makes it a "sanitized reality", such as dress code, code of ethics, and the school rules on tardiness and absents.  Going to grade school is in a controlled environment, making it less like reality, where although there are rules, you still have a sense of freedom, apposed to the typical 7-8 hour school day.
